The Silicon Valley Code Camp, now in its sixth year, I believe, is a weekend that features a wide variety of coding topics, all for free, led by local speakers who are knowledgeable about their subjects. While there are many corporate sponsors, there doesn’t appear to be any one sponsor laying claim to the event.
One thing that is very different for me now is that I come prepared with a much greater understanding of the non-Microsoft technologies and tools. Thanks to my current employer for having a mixed environment (although that was one of the biggest reasons I decided to go work for them). I still maintain my loyalty to Microsoft technologies. I have my reasons, and believe they are defensible.
At any rate, I’m planning to blog quite a lot about my experience in this event. But it will be technical, which means it will go on my tech blog, CodeCharm.
Today (Friday, the day before the event), I volunteered to pack attendee bags and fold t-shirts, etc. There actually are not a lot of hardcore geeks in my workplace, so this was a fun change. I got a t-shirt and a mug. We joked that a true developer could maintain a perpetual wardrobe without ever paying for it; but then I pointed out that nobody gives out free pants. Hey, marketers, I smell an opportunity!
Mostly, though, tomorrow I’m going to go to the dinner that is open only to the speakers, coordinators, and volunteers. Maybe I’ll get to know someone new here. Who knows?
Nice hotel I’m in. Little, out of the way place called County Inn. Clean, quiet. Breakfast promised in the morning. But I’m going to sleep now so that I can get up early and hit the gym here (I hope it’s as good as it sounded on the website).

Re: Silicon Valley Code Camp 2011 I've been there in County Inn and their service is great. Nice people, approachable crew so, I must recommend them to everyone. An "A" for county Inn. :)
