Microsoft's most misunderstood application
How many times did I write a note on a piece of paper, and then lose the paper? How many times did I grab a post-it, and lose the post-it? How many times did I make a note for myself to do something, or a reminder about how I did something, and I left it in a Word comment, or somewhere in source code, or in a random TXT file somewhere in the TEMP folder or, worse, my desktop?
OneNote has been a fantastic tool for me. I use it as much as I can at work. TAKE THE TUTORIAL when first using it, even if you're pretty computer savvy (I've been programming for 25 years, and I was glad I walked through the tutorial). For example, re-ordering pages in a tab. I would try to just grab the tab on the right side and drag it up, but all it does is quickly tab through the pages. THEN I took the tutorial, and realized that I need to gesture like I'm pulling out the page and then inserting it where I want. It made a lot of sense after I did it, but because I'm so used to the customary, not-very-helpful UI of most apps, I wasn't expecting it.
I hope Microsoft makes this very handy application a big presence in Office. I'm going to be plenty mad if it goes off into obsolescence.
