Post-It Notes
Okay, one quick thing. The other day I needed to make a list of things, and I decided to make each thing on a separate Post-It Note. Because I had a lot of things, I started stacking the notes on top of each other. Then I wanted to move one around. This became a problem because the notes were stuck to each other in a big chain.
So I started using them upside-down. The sticky part is now on the bottom edge of the note, not the top edge.
This has turned out to be a really good thing. First, I no longer smear the fresh ink on the Post-It note when I write on the pad, then stick it to something. Second, I can easily remove a note that is stacked in the middle of a bunch of other notes without disturbing the others. Third, I can use my hand naturally to brush off eraser residue (I use pencils a lot) in an upward motion.
There are some downsides, but I don't care. When people hand me notes, I have to either transcribe it if I keep it in my files with other notes, or I have to make extra space for it. I can't put them on vertical surfaces so easily (they tend to fall away from the surface). But both of those are more rare than what I usually use them for: organizing things I need to remember.
